I've moved! And I'm FINALLY blogging again!!!

The last 2 weeks we were building the site I started diligently blogging, getting back in the habit. Man - I've missed writing like this! And now we're "on". It's very exciting over here.

Take a spin through the pages & learn a bit more about me & what I do. I've been a busy girl & have made a lot of changes since my last blog post in 2009.

Check back every day - I've come up with a format I really like incorporating some of the favorite themes from my previous blog followers:

SUNDAYS: SENSE-ational Sundays are BACK! I ran these for 2+ years, recording my top 5 "sense"-ational experiences each week. It's like a diary of my sensory world. My weekly favorites - what I see, hear, taste, touch & smell. If you're an aspiring blogger it's a GREAT writing exercise and really makes you pay attention to the little joys in your life.

MONDAYS: Yummy Mondays - every Monday will be food related. Recipes, cooking videos, gratuitous sugar, etc.

TUESDAYS: The Trendwatcher lives! I am still an avid trend tracker & wanted to include my forecasting tips and web trend links into a regular column. Tuesdays are a must for designers & indie artists.

WEDNESDAYS: What I Want Wednesdays -Each Wednesday I will window shop through etsy, sharing finds from talented independent artist by themes. We'll discover tons of great handmade artists together!

THURSDAYS: Well, I can't live every day by a formula - Thursdays are a wild card! I am including a Life & Laughs column for everything from redneck shenanigans to what I'm reading and more.

FRIDAYS: Button Business - Here is where I can recap what I've been working on the last week. New listings, online buying trends, upcoming shows, local shops, etc. It's a regular ManHandled-palooza. I like it, because I tend to talk about work a lot, and this really contains it when I write about other things.

SATURDAYS: My day of online rest. Unless there's something awesome going on (like tomorrow), I plan to go do something in the real world & stay off the computer. Get some sunshine, or sleep in, or go out - whatever you do HAVE FUN!

I am fine - I've just had family in the hospital, for well - a little over a month now. It's been hard to write about & hard to find the time to write. I can manage shorter updates, so I've been on facebook more when I've had time (Emily Hargis Adams).

You know I am addicted to etsy.com. Not only are they an amazing community to shop in & sell on - they have weekly how-to tutorials, an online magazine, free virtual classes, a resource guide, a message board & SO MUCH MORE!

This week's how to video really got my attention because not only do I have everything to do this at home (well - I'm subbing felt for batting, but it's close enough) - I'm betting if you're a scrapper you do to. A LOT of papers & notes for some upcoming classes I'll be teaching at GASC in Arlington. True to Luxe - all the projects will probably end up as a collaborations - but since but I had to get descriptions & teaser photos turned in today I had to wing it a little bit. We have some AMAZING releases coming up that I want to incorporate too - it's so hard to do a sample photo when the product you want to use doesn't exist yet! :)

So that's what I'm working on. Class descriptions & sign ups go up next week. They're going to be A TON of fun and I'm really looking forward to teaching locally! The last several years GASC has always been opposite a CKU or Scrap-a-Ganza, so I've only taught at 1 in the last 8 years. Which is CRAZY since it's the largest consumer convention in the US and it's in my own backyard!

Once again a day late & a dollar short and another skipped Friday...
We've been having some serious stuff going on this week. There's just no other explanation for it.

Our senses tell a story. I've committed to recording my 5 senses for the past week - every week - as an exercise to explore my sensory world. I challenge you to do the same. If you choose to do so, just blog your 5 senses every Sunday & let me know - I'd love to read along!

I SEE: Clutter & Order
We had a MAJOR project this week. My dad has come to stay with us for a couple of months so we decided to buckle down and turn our crap-collector/spare bedroom into a real live guest room & totally livable space. If you've been to my house, you know what a daunting task that was. Matt & I managed a complete transformation in 2 days. I feel like I worked out for about 20 hours straight. Even my hair hurts.

I HEAR: the Back to the Future Trilogy

I tend to listen to DVDs when I'm working on the computer @ home. The more familiar the better since I can "see" them in my mind & don't have to concentrate on it at all to enjoy it & know what's going on. The Back to the Future movies are great for this kind of thing and were the discs on the desk this week...

I TASTE: Triscuts
I'm going through a triscut phase right now...I don't know why. They're my favorite thing to munch on.

I TOUCH: Upholstery fabric
I bought fabric & "made" and hung curtains this weekend (is it "making" curtains when you figure out how to rig them without sewing anything????).

I SMELL: Tim Horton's English Toffee Coffee
I must say THANK GOD for Vicki Boutin who sends me my Tim-fix whenever I ask her to. I LOVE this coffee & since there's no Tims anywhere NEAR my end of the country I am eternally grateful to my personal coffee exporter. :)

"Sense"-ational Sundays...

brown pork chops in a deep skillet - season with salt and pepper (do not worry about cooking all the way through, just get a nice color)
remove pork chops and deglaze skillet with a bottle or can of beer
add a bottle of barbecue sauce, a bunch of thinly sliced onions & some chopped garlic
place pork chops back in skillet
simmer (covered) 1-2 hours
serve over white rice

Oh wow. You will be blown away - sooooooo tender and good. And your house will smell wonderful!

I TOUCH: American cheese
I've been a little bored with lunches lately, so I decided to make pimento cheese for next week - so I did a lot of shredding today! Matt likes "old school" pimento cheese - it's so easy it's almost criminal:

shred a 1/2 lb+ block of white American cheese
shred a 1/2 lb+ block of yellow American cheese (just get these unsliced in a block from your deli counter)
dump in 2 little jars of diced pimentos & juice
add plenty of miracle whip - stir

That's it. Personally I like to mix in cheddar & add black pepper & a couple of dashes of Tabasco sauce - but it's good either way. So superior to what you buy in the tub - you may never go back!

I SMELL: Brown Sugar Soap

I've been using up some of my smaller bars of soap & rediscovered one I really liked - brown sugar. It was one of my etsy finds. I really recommend it if you're in the mood for a little indulgence!

It's been a very weird week. I've been staying with my dad while my stepmom's been in the hospital...quite frankly blogging has been pretty low on the priority list this week. We don't have much of a prognosis yet - but a less than 24 hour observation period going in has turned into a week of tests...

I'll get back in the swing of my regular blogging as soon as I can.

...let's see. A new Neil Gaiman book, a box of little colored note papers (my personal soft spot! I love to write on them, unfortunately I lose the papers a lot - but I keep using them so...oh well) & a cup of sharpies. The cup is particularly cool - Meg mod-poged it with some of my fabric. Very chic. I was supposed to photograph it for her upcoming etsy site...but I kind of stole it, so I guess I have to pay her now. Oh well.

Blue on the Brain...

I've been busy...and as a result I have my weekly designs done in the first half of the week instead of the last half (miracle). So since I was done early I wanted to share my latest...

This is my new Catch 52 kit - I wanted to do a calendar/journaling kit so I made 4 circle journaling spots and 6 calendar rings that can hook around the edges of the lined circles. My inspiration was a vintage plate I liked...

Something about the look of the font (retro) and the idea of the months circling a central design inspired me. I love this plate...and anything with vintage calendars. I am always on the lookout for fun finds!

It's like blue week over here...lol.Feels like everything I do is in shades of blue this week.

Our sales were pretty good last week. We were getting our envelopes ready for the post office, and Matt started to bag them up in a Target bag (we're overrun with them). When it became apparent they weren't going to fit, we both muttered "We're gonna need a bigger boat" - and that was the moment I knew...Our next set HAD to be a Jaws tribute. I LOVE this movie. These were SO much fun to put together & I got to listen to Jaws while I was doing them.

CLASS KIT UPDATE: I still have some $5 mini album kits available! Help me spread the word...these kits are worth $15, but I'm clearing them out for $5 because Matt says I HAVE to get them OUT of the house!!!! More details & photos on Monday's post...

Class Kit BLOW OUT...

OK...I've decided to BLOW OUT a bunch of old class kits!!! I have A LOT of different old class kits in my house, but I'm starting with my two favorite mini classes. Originally when I taught these classes they sold for $15.

Mini Me

This kit creates a fabulous tag album - ready to fill out to make a little book about yourself. It includes: a 6x6 transparency, a 6x6 piece of ivory ledger, a 6x6 piece of Color Me paper, four 6x6 pieces of double sided patterned paper, 10 ornate patterned journaling blocks, 2 manila tags, red patterned grosgrain ribbon, a piece of printed cardstock I designed to be cut and used as embellishments for your book and written instructions with a link to an online photo album so you can see each page to help you recreate it.

Birds of a Feather

This is a mini album built on library cards - it's whimsically charming & great to add quirky little black and white photos to or leave as is. It includes: a 6x6 piece of retro catalog ad paper, a 6x6 piece of pink grid paper, two 6x6 pieces of double sided patterned paper, four library cards, a partial rub on sheet with rectangular frames & designs (patterns vary), a blue silk flower, a pink silk flower, black satin ribbon, gingham ribbon, bead chain, 4 Maya Road chipboard birds, googly eyes, a piece of printed cardstock I designed (with the bird sayings) to be cut and used as embellishments for your book and written instructions with a link to an online photo album so you can see each page to help you recreate it.

You can tell from the lists - these kits are worth way more than $5...but consider it spring cleaning! Matt says it's time for a big special and THEY ALL MUST GO!

I SEE: Gran Torino

Where do I begin...this movie was not what we expected. Here's an opening statement - not only did my husband stay awake through it, he wants to see it again (if you know Matt, you know how significant that is!).

Yes there is very strong language. For once, I can honestly say it was integral to character development and the story line. And, yes, sometimes the violence was so painfully real it was difficult to watch. With that said, this story had so many well crafted layers and lessons in it we think every parent with a teen child should go see it to start a real conversation about prejudice, inter-generational relations, respect, violence, faith, friendship, love & family. Now - parents, we recommend you go alone first and make the independent decision your child is "old enough" to handle it...but it has been years since a movie generated such genuine conversations about morals and values between me & my spouse. It was awesome. And poignant. And in its own way beautiful.

I HEAR: The Bad Dog
Yes, I've picked a favorite. My parents have 2 dogs - Lady & Curly. I told Lady she was my favorite this week and Curly officially is in my "dog house". When I was over there on Wednesday they got out. Lady surrendered herself in their front yard and submitted to being put on the leash. But curly the little...fur turd...barked and yipped and RAN over two blocks before I caught him. (stop-sprint, stop-sprint, stop-sprint) And of course, I was wearing the worst shoes possible for an impromptu dog marathon & as a result I still have sore ankles.

I TASTE: Fresh Blueberry Muffins

When we ran to my aunt & uncle's Saturday morning to pick up our weekly coop box (which, btw included - apples, carrots, nectarines, mushrooms, blueberries, lettuce, grapefruit & sweet potatoes this week) my aunt was just taking some fresh blueberry muffins out of the oven. We got a KILLER deal on blueberries last week at the market (.50 a pint!!!), so we've been eating them a lot lately. But these, these were so good it was almost sinful!

I TOUCH: SewGoods

One of the IndieFrenzy services we offer is etsy shop management. One of our clients is SewGoods (OK, I confess, she is my mother-in-law, but she is a paying client), who does beautiful machine embroidered towels & novelty pillowcases. I've been doing a lot of photography for her & setting up her shop. Her work is lovely! You should go check out her full shop...I will be adding more all week.

I SMELL: Ocean Salt from LUSH

I get really dry skin when it's cold & I really try to take care of it. I love using the Ocean Salt as an intense scrub to remove dead/dry skin & refresh my hands & elbows. It's so abrasive you can't use it more than once a week - but the results are amazing! It is made up of a combo of sea salt, vodka & grapefruit juice (kind of like a Salty Dog) along with avocado & coconut oil, so it's all natural. My hands look 10 years younger for a few days every time I use it! If you have a LUSH in your area they always have it out for people to sample, so you can do your own treatment for free! You'll use the Ocean Salt first, then the Lemony Flutter & Dream Cream to rehydrate. It is so worth the trip to try it out! (I swear, some day I'm gonna work @ LUSH...I feel like I know their line as well as any employee!)

I SEE: Principal's Office

I've discovered a hilarious new show...Principal's office. Matt & I caught a marathon when Meg was over & we laughed SO hard.

I HEAR: My phone ringing...constantly
Why is it everyone wants to call when you don't have a voice? LOL...it seemed like it rang nonstop last week.

I TASTE: My aunt's soup
My Aunt Carol really came through for me the last couple of weeks while I've been sick. She brought me over some of the best potato & chicken noodle soup I've EVER had & I'm eternally grateful!

I TOUCH: Felt

Meg & I worked on ideas for StitchSlap! on Saturday. We've decided to make itty bitty wearable softies for barrettes, rings & pins. Even though I was still a little sick, it was good to see the Megster...I've missed her.

I SMELL: Cilantro
It was my week to buy for the coop & I had Mexican food in mind and I loaded us up on cilantro, corn, onions & garlic. This week I also picked up potatoes, mangoes, bananas, tangerines & blueberries...yum!

New Creations for Catch 52 & ManHandled

So here's what I've been doing when I'm not coughing up a lung...I created this digital calendar set for Catch 52. I'm loving the challenge of designing a calendar a week...it should be a fun year and a line of digital products even traditional scrappers will want to use!

I've also done 2 new button sets this week. We've goaled ourselves to add at least one new button set a week to ManHandled this year & these New Moon sets kick it off.

I am ALIVE. Thank you for your calls & emails...I know I haven't missed a Shop Etsy Saturday or Sense-ational Sunday in over a year - until last week. That should give you an idea of how sick I've been. I've really just had the energy to do what I "had to" do and spent the rest of the time coughing or sleeping.

I'm somewhat better, but still have a barking, bone shaking cough. The Z-Pack did nothing for me so I'm on a new antibiotic now {I'm allergic to all the penicillin drugs so I have a hard time when I catch something that needs big gun antibiotics} & I'm regularly taking Robitussin. I will get back on the blog soon...I promise! But for now...maybe a nap!

...a cup of hot tea. I might also add it's a 2:50 AM edition of On My Desk Thursdays. I'm sick. Coughing & sore throat. I'll be headed to the doc later today as a matter of fact! My mom got me that mug...Matt made me tea before he went to bed & I just refilled it. It's a little thing, but I love that it is such a good memory of my mom & it was really sweet for Matt to do for me.

2009: the beginning of a new era in EmilyWorld...

I no longer work full time. I am thrilled to still be doing some consulting work for Luxe (love them), but am really excited to pursue some of my own creative goals & passions this year. Here's a breakdown of what 2009 has in store...

CATCH 52
One thing I have figured out through my years in the scrapbooking industry. I love designing practical product. I am fixated on calendars, word art and clean, elementary graphic design because it is timeless, classic and can be used to compliment any style.

Now, I personally haven't converted to digital scrapbooking, but I use brushes and other digi elements and consider myself a hybrid girl. So the opportunity to create for PolkaDotPotato was just too good to pass up!

Catch 52 is a calendar line with attitude! I will be releasing a new piece of digital calendar art every week in 2009! (exclusively available at www.PolkaDotPotato.com) This line will have something for everyone - from funky & unusual to ultra traditional. I'm designing it as a hybrid user - so there will be brushes & printables as well as pure digi elements.

The button business is booming! Matt & I are having more fun than ever churning out new designs and look forward to having more time to devote to our shop. We've added a second ManHandled site on ArtFire.com for 2009.

The Bookie

As the button business picked up, we realized we needed ManHandled to be a specialized site - which meant no more mixed shop. Matt & I love making journals {and he's especially good at it} and we both wanted a paper-anything-goes store...so we just opened TheBookie.

StitchSlap!
As we talked through our shop specialization plans with the family, Meg came up with a shop concept she wanted to be the primary on that she wanted to do with me. StitchSlap! will be a softie toy, pin cushion & embroidery/miscellaneous punk sewing shop on etsy. More details coming soon...

Technically this is a Friday picture (note the date). I got so wrapped up in my news yesterday I forgot. So here we have: Twin Peaks & a bunch of sewing stuff...In an effort to develop a routine (now that I'll be home so much), I've committed to walking on the treadmill every morning whether I want to or not. I've decided the best "timer" would be watching something I enjoyed & wouldn't take the time to watch otherwise. So I'm starting each day with an episode of the Peaks...the sewing stuff has been gathered to work on projects for StitchSlap! which I have been procrastinating.

I SEE: A new photography set up

Isn't it beautiful? I am so geekin' excited about our new Christmas present {Matt & I got it for eachother}, I can hardly contain myself!!! It's a 30 inch light tent and it's revolutionizing what I can do with product photography over here! Whoohoo - happy dance-happy dance-happy dance! There are no calm & mature words - I'm still too excited!

I HEAR: Cranium - Turbo edition
So much fun {although I think I was hearing the timer go off in my sleep}! We played Christmas eve - teams. Aunt Carol & I won, although it was a hoot watching Matt & Meg do charades and seeing Amy & her dad play with their "extra" - one of Amy's battle buddies on speaker phone. I think we were over there til about 1...we haven't stayed up that late on Christmas eve in a while!

I TASTE: Wee ham sandwiches
I did these for Matt's family reunion & for my inlaws Christmas day. So simple & so scrumptious - I'm still craving more! Hawaiian rolls, Inglehoffer stoneground mustard & shaved ham. It's amazing how much of a mustard junkie I've become after discovering I liked it a few months ago...

I TOUCH: GreenCards

We're working on all kinds of paper items for TheBookie, which we plan to launch on New Year's Eve. One of the projects are these little upcycled notecard sets - we're calling them "GreenCards" (green for the recycling aspect). Matt's absolutely addicted to making them & I love them because I always have or make cards and need envelopes!

I SMELL: Choya Plum Wine with Ume Fruit
My aunt's birthday is Christmas day & I discovered this year that she really likes Plum wine {specifically a bottle of Kinsen I had in my fridge}. She had said, after she tasted it, that she would love a bottle for her birthday {how on earth I remembered I couldn't tell you}. Well, of course, they were sold out when I tried to hunt it down, but they tipped me off to the umeshu (the plum wine with ume) & I got that instead. She cracked into it on Christmas eve & gave me a taste.

I like them both, although they are very different. The Kinsen is very full and almond-y. It is one of the favorites of the plums I've tried. The Choya is more citric (because of the pickled Ume floating in it) and lighter. The aroma on both is utterly intoxicating. I love Japanese plum wines...they are so aromatic and complex. You should really try either of these if you haven't had them before.

This week it's...not really on my desk - because I'm not "working" at my desk today. I'm "working" in my kitchen. So today it's "On My Kitchen Counter", featuring HOW TO MAKE FAT BALLS. Big thanks to Pam for sharing the recipe with me - they were a huge hit with my family last night & I made these this morning for Matt's family...

Step 1: Put chocolate chip cookie dough in a mini muffin tin & unwrap a bunch of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups {I used the bells since they were taller}.

Step 2: Bake cookie dough @ 350 for 10 minutes.
Step 3: Squish in peanut butter cups while it's hot.
Step 4: Finish baking 3-5 minutes.

...well, it's not technically MY desk. But it is a work surface in my home. This is a card table shot of Matt's projects! Matt confiscated my spiral binder the day I brought it home & he's been obsessed ever since. He's done a couple of dozen as gifts and for our etsy shop, but "now he's serious". After Christmas we're opening another etsy shop called "The Bookie" (www.TheBookie.etsy.com) - which will feature Matt's spirals, other altered books, greeting cards, alterable gaming pieces & miscellaneous paper creations (ooooh - paper project kits too!). ManHandled will be exclusively devoted to our buttons, button accessories, magnets & cool gift wrapping options for them. Have I mentioned lately how much I love my crafty stud of a husband????

Holiday Heros: Bacon Cups & Italian Cheese Spread

As the holidays are going into full swing, I have been thinking "what do I bring to so-and-so's" and having friends talking about what they're making for the holidays as well. I always get asked for the same 2 recipes every year so I thought I'd do the preemptive strike and share them on my blog. Enjoy!

Bacon Cups a.k.a. Bacon Bundles
These are so amazing - there are no words. You will be the rock star of the party guaranteed. I make a big batch - this makes 48 - 60. Trust me, you'll run out. You can make the filling ahead & refrigerate it (my favorite way to do it) or make them all the day before & reheat.

1 package of lower sodium bacon, browned & crumbled (can sub peppered bacon)
1 or 2 yellow onions (depending on size), chopped & sauteed until caramelized
6-8 roma tomatoes, seeded and diced
1/2 bag finely shredded yellow mixed cheese
1/2 bag finely shredded mozzarella cheese
dried basil
mayonnaise
3-4 cans refrigerated flaky layer biscuits (it never hurts to have extra biscuits - but I usu. only need the 3 cans)

Combine cooked bacon and onions (cooled) with tomatoes & cheese. Shake a bunch of basil onto the pile. Add enough mayo to bind the mixture together into a gigantic gooey mess (you won't "taste" the mayo - the eggs in it will turn it into an eggless-tasting mini quiche).

You have to have the flaky layered ones so you can split them apart. Separate each biscuit into 3 layers. Press them into a mini muffin pan to create a "crust". Use two teaspoons to add the sticky filling (one to scoop & one to scrape). Bake them according to the package directions for the biscuits.

Honestly, I add more cheese - (like the whole bags) but I am a cheesy girl. You can sub just about anything in this recipe, or leave out tomatoes or onions if you don't like them.

Italian Cheese Spread
We can thank my stepsister for this bit of deliciousness...It's not "cheap", but it is so good and you can make 2 spreads for 2 different parties, so I think that makes it totally worth it! It freezes and thaws flawlessly and is perfect to have on hand for people who drop by. If you have advance notice, put it in the fridge the night before. If you need it in a hurry - heat it in the microwave - it gets all melty, yum. It is at its best at room temperature.

1 package of cream cheese
1 container of feta cheese
8+ slices of round mozzarella or provolone cheese from the deli
1 small jar of basil pesto
1 small jar of sun dried tomato pesto
LOTS of Ritz chips!

Bring the cream cheese & feta to room temperature. Thoroughly combine with a fork. Find a bowl roughly the circumference of your round sliced cheese. pour a TINY bit of oil from either pesto in the bottom of the bowl so it doesn't stick. Add a thin layer of the feta mixture to the bottom of the bowl and spread it thin & even. Add a thin layer of basil pesto (no more than a small spoonful - it's powerful) and a thin layer of tomato pesto on top of it. They will swirl into each other - that's OK. Add a slice of your round cheese on top of it. Repeat the layers like that as if you were building a little lasagna out of cheese.

You should build two at once so one's not gigantic and the other minuscule. Be sure you have a bowl with a tight fitting lid for the one you freeze for best results. There are disposable containers that are a perfect fit.

It's best if you leave it in the bowl for serving. Not only does the oil in the pesto make the layers want to fall into slippery collapse, it will run all over the place & not be very pretty.

Trust me, get 2 bags of Ritz chips for each dip you make. They put a lot of air in there...and you should have a small knife or spreader available (or 2 spreaders - people don't like taking turns with this one). If it's the first time you serve it at your house - you might want to wait to freeze your back up. You might need it!

Another question from the comments inspired this post. Pizza salad is a favorite chopped salad in our house. Chop, add & combine everything on this list:

lettuce
green onions
tomatoes
mushrooms
banana peppers
mozzarella cheese
pepperoni
parmesan
big buttery garlic croutons
italian dressing
you can add anything else you like or have on hand - provolone, salami, green or red peppers, red onion, anchovies, black olives, artichoke hearts, capers, sun dried tomatoes, chopped basil - just think of your favorite pizza toppings!

Serve with garlic bread & enjoy!

OK - Kandice asked in a comment, so I thought I would clear this up since green onions are so very fab. Here's what I like to do:

1. Use them in salads - this week in my pizza salad.
2. On baked potatoes.
3. Floated on soups.
4. Mixed with cooked frozen peas & ramen noodles. {the best!}
5. Dipped in a 2/3 pepper-1/3 salt mixture & eaten as is.
6. Battered & fried or baked with ranch dressing.
7. In fried rice.
8. Grilled. {yummo}
9. With scrambled eggs.
10. Grow more green onions. I store them upright in a glass of water & snip off the top for salads & baked potatoes. They keep growing in your fridge!

I SMELL: Green Onions

We had an "off week" from the coop after Thanksgiving & last week we didn't have a ton of stuff that excited me. But the nice thing about taking turns at the farmer's market is that some weeks you get a box full of things you *adore* {except broccoli}. This week I did the happy dance because we got green peppers, green onions {so happy to get THREE beautiful, fragrant bunches!}, spinach, carrots, apples, oranges, pears, blackberries & blueberries. We're giving the broccoli away...because it smells like - well, broccoli.

Welcome to the Christmas edition of getting to know your friends. Okay,here's what you're supposed to do, and try not to be a SCROOGE!!! Change all the answers so that they apply to you. Tag as many people as you want to....Tis the Season to be NICE!

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Plain brown white or kraft paper. Then I paint & draw on it with sharpies. My uncle wraps everything in tin foil & my dad uses black trash bags. Probably why ended up such a gift wrap overachiever.
2. Real tree or Artificial? I'm *SO* allergic! So I went the other way & chose a retro '50's style kitchy white mini tree.
3. When do you put up the tree? um...I mean to right after Thanksgiving. But I have done the 24 hour tree before & at the rate I'm going that's how it will be this year.
4. When do you take the tree down? somewhere between the weekend after Christmas & New Year's Eve.
5. Do you like eggnog? lactose intolerant - but just found out I ADORE Soy Nog!!!
6. Favorite gift received as a child? gosh...I got a turntable & speakers in the 6th grade along with 4 albums...Vivaldi's Four Seasons, Scheherazade by Rimsky Korsakov, Whale songs & ABBA. Three of those are still some of my absolute favorites. Whale song still scares me a little.
7. Hardest person to buy for? Usually my dad - but we've all committed to a no gift - spend time with each other holiday this year & we're really relaxed.
8. Easiest person to buy for? Meg & Amy. It's hard NOT to buy for them year round I know them so well.
9. Do you have a nativity scene? Three that are all very special. One is a folksy Italian imported one my mom picked out {it even includes the village idiot at the birth along with a bunch of other "non traditional" characters}. Another is from Mexico, that I bought my mom when we were in San Antonio for our honeymoon. The entire nativity is in a tipped over teacup and is surrounded by beautiful, bright flowers. The other is in a straw ornament I've had since childhood. It's always the first ornament on the tree & I always center it over a bulb so it looks like light is shining in on the baby Jesus.
10. Mail or email Christmas cards. I wish...I have good intentions, but never get them mailed in time. Instead I've made everyone in our families personalized ornaments every year for the last 4 years.
11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? vibrating hair brush...I'm not kidding. And I'm so sorry if you read my blog. I love you & it was a long time ago. I'm sure it was fabulous. I just didn't "get it".
12. Favorite Christmas Movie? not quite a movie, but Charlie Brown's Christmas Special is a MUST every year.
13. When do you start shopping? When I buy I tend to shop year round, but then tell people or give them stuff early anyway. I get really serious Dec 1. nothing like pressure.
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Hot chocolate mix - once. Desperate times called for desperate measures & I needed an "instant" gift.
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? pigs in a blanket Christmas morning with a cup of coffee
16 color lights on tree? white but {grew up with flashing multis}
17. Favorite Christmas song? Santa Baby {I'm a jazz vixen at heart!}
18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? HOME
19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer's? um...Rudolph, Dancer, Donner, Blitzen, Comet, Cupid, Stupid {hey, it rhymes & somebody taught it to me that way and I always derail there...}

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Christmas eve. Christmas day has always been awkward for my family. Not only is it a family birthday & my grandfather died {at home, with me there} on Christmas morning when I was growing up. It's never been the same.
22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year? people who forget to be Christian at Christmas
23. Favorite ornament theme or color? I used to want a themed tree, but am so attached to our handmade history I wouldn't change a thing. I make and add one purchased ornament every year. My tree has every ornament going back 37 Christmas-es to my first, which was a little wooden figure of a boy on a rocking horse which was rescued from the mobile over my crib {and yes - I am so old I had a wooden mobile, next question}.
24. Favorite for Christmas dinner? ROCK ON...this is how you do it: WingStop {lemon pepper, garlic parmesan, regular & plain}, a massive veggie tray with ranch, my Italian cheese dip with ritz chips {a post in itself}, pea salad, pickled okra, black olives {gross}, mixed nuts, m&m's and angel food cake with berries. And yes, we're probably weirdos. And yes, it's divine.
25. What do you want for Christmas this year? my family to be healthy enough to spend the holiday together.

Pocky & a printout. Pocky is an amazing chocolate dipped crispy cookie stick...they're addictive. As for the handout - SO MUCH FUN! I found a "How To" section on etsy with free project downloads. They had a printable pattern for making play food out of felt. I can't wait to try them! I've bought several felt food patterns this year {from cupcakes to sushi} and it was a real treat to find so many good patterns for free!

Realizations & Beginnings...

A lot has happened in the last few months of my life that I've endeavored to keep "under the blog radar". First, we've faced major health scares and issues with both my & Matt's parents. Also, my computer died, which left me technologically disabled for a period of time. These seemingly unrelated disasters occurred at the same time, but it made other areas of my life quickly snap into focus.

I want to spend more time with my friends and my family
"My passion" is online marketing initiatives, trend watching and the independent artist communities that are growing globally through the web.

So I'm making some changes...

I will be shifting to part time as a marketing contractor for Luxe. I love Luxe, the Luxe Girls and all things Luxe-urious, but my new plans don't have room for a full time job. I will be transitioning to part time after the end of this year.
I will be available to do marketing consulting to other scrapbook companies, other craft & hobby companies and independent scrapbook stores. I will be posting more details on this later. In the meantime, email emilyadamsonfire@gmail.com if you are interested.
I will be able to concentrate more on ManHandled, my husband's etsy shop, and will have time to launch other handmade shops we have in development as well.
Also, I am starting a new venture with a couple of old friends. I have been kicking this idea around for a while now, and finally, it's time. Along with Kate Lynch and Ashley Smith, we are proud to announce...

IndieFrenzy will be a micro-marketing consulting collective for crafsters selling on etsy, ebay and on their own websites with services and tools to help them increase their traffic and sales. We are so excited to be helping independent artists in a market that's more locally focused, globally friendly and uniquely original. IndieFrenzy is handmade marketing for a handmade world.

If you remember the names...YES, the "3 Amigos" from the original Magic Scraps have reunited. Back in the day, Kate & I worked for Ashley creating, educating, marketing, & selling Magic Scraps. I wanted to do a mini recap of what we've been up to so you can catch you up...

Before: Ashley has always been an innovator. She started Magic Scraps back in 2001 and was ultimately responsible for all their innovative ideas until she sold the company in 2004.
Since: Ashley has built PolkaDotPotato.com, a digital scrapbook company that bridges the gap between traditional and digital scrapbookers and brings local stores, manufacturers and digi scrappers together in a unique online community. Ashley has also done web design for several major companies as well as an array of independent artists. In her "spare time" she is also the creator of Dream In Color Creations , and sells at local craft shows.

Before: Kate designed products for Magic Scraps, traveled to and ran booths at over 100 consumer events across the country and ran their kit club.
Since: Kate has been working in the corporate sector. She has a high position in a credit card processing firm and has become well versed in credit card regulations and how transactions process online. Kate still fuels her creative side with web design work...and she's in the midst of getting her first novel published, while working on her second.

Before: I ran education for Magic Scraps, and tested marketing techniques and monitored consumer habits first hand, as I taught craftsters at conventions all over the world. Through Magic Scraps I got the opportunity to appear on the DIY Network and contribute to several books & magazines.
Since: After that, I launched my own product line with Imagination Project {Circus Rose} before joining Luxe as their Marketing Director in 2007. In the last few years I have learned web design, designed everything from flyers to catalogs, launched multiple online stores, gotten heavy marketing experience and joined the Indie Craft movement. I am an avid trend watcher and still dedicate a lot of my time to research and forecasting.

Combined we have over 30 years in craft & hobby businesses, having worked for large corporations, mid level companies, as consultants or as entrepreneurs. We have conceptualized, sourced, produced, packaged, marketed and sold products on every level from etsy to Target. We are all indie craftsters at heart and want to empower artists everywhere!

It's been 3 years - seriously???

Really??? Today, 3 years ago I had my stroke. It's stunning to think of how much has changed in 3 years. It's exhilarating to think of how much my life has improved since then.

I still have a few reminders {killer leg cramps since my right leg is STILL stronger than my left and even though I fight to hide it my left leg still drags a little - especially when I'm tired. Also - an almost completely dead left foot...wiggling toes or standing on tip toe is, well, really hard}...BUT here's what I can do: live a long & healthy life {thanks to Mr. Pacemaker}. Walk {hello - HUGE improvement}. "Be normal" {or at least not have to deal with heart problems, partial paralysis & exhaustion every day}. Which is AWESOME!

So I'm celebrating life today!!! My cup overflows & it's a glorious day to be alive! Go hug somebody & have a great day!

We got A LOT of great ideas. Some we knew at first sight were a perfect fit for our shop -like: Frank Sinatra, Sock Monkeys, another bird set {ravens & crows}, City themes and retro TV. We love the woodland creatures too - but Odd Little Forest does them so well, we don't even feel worthy to compete. I would be off "Don't Forget the Lyrics" in the first round. I love to sing, but can't remember the words most of the time. It keeps things interesting...
I subscribe to BUST, and my husband makes fun of it everytime it arrives. I've even shopped at their "Boobtique". It makes Matt giggle - it's hilarious.
I did a crazy radio spot for the Edge back in '89, when the Edge was new & really rocked. They played it for a couple of years...it was surreal hearing it every once in a while.
I've taken a lot of art classes. For one I did a study on urban graffiti in art districts vs industrial areas. That's when my obsession with graffiti started {back in the early 90's}. I still subscribe to {what started out as a tagger's mag}, Beautiful Decay.
I fall out of shoes without backs. I'm like the butler from Birdcage...
Some of my all time favorite "junk" movies are: The Birdcage, She Devil, Commando, Total Recall, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels & The Fifth Element. Some of my all time "real" favorites are: Jaws, The Shining, The Shawshank Redemption, What Dreams May Come & Sense and Sensibility. I could watch all of these over & over. I also love watching TV series on DVD - I am currently watching Twin Peaks & Todd McFarlane's Spawn. {I love Spawn!!!}

Karmacrochet
I struggled with my pick this week, there's so much good stuff on etsy lately! Finally I decided on Karmacrochet, beacuse:

1. they're a local artist & want to support my community
2. I'm going to get to meet them at the Jingle Bash tomorrow, and...
3. I'm constantly digging for my Carmex in my bag!

Yep, she'll crochet you your own custom color of Carmex cozy! When I first saw this I was like "yeah, right! How ridiculous is that?" But I bookmarked it, and I found myself revisiting the listing. I use a LOT of Carmex. Especially in winter - and I usually have to dig for it because it always rolls away from me. I think what finally got me was the key chain attachment. I'll never lose my lip balm again!

Now, what do I want, you ask??? Black with a red button, of course! I think I'm going to order one today. :)

Christmas Cards & Mini Kits...

The Luxe Girls have been busy creating a slew of Christmas card ideas! We challenged ourselves to create a card design that could be replicated 10 times as cheaply as possible. I love this concept, since I'm usually pretty cost conscious when I create anyway. All the instructions are free and are being posted on our blog with the cards every day.

We even created little 10 card kits to go with them. To keep the cost down, we wrote the instructions like a recipe and didn't include things like cardstock and glitter - items you probably already have at home. We also didn't factor in tools (trimmer, scissors, etc), but we also made sure we didn't use any tools beyond the basics to create with. A few of the kits include our holiday stamp set...which made them a little higher, but considering it's a non consumable item we "gave ourselves permission" to include it in our design. We really approached the challenge in exactly the same mindset we use when we ourselves are walking down the aisles of a scrapbook store, making decisions on purchases (do I really need this? how can I stretch this further? will I use it again? etc.).

We started the promo on Wednesday and I wanted to share the two cards of mine that have gone up so far:

This one's called "Sprinkled with Whimsy" (Since the paper line it features is called Sprinkles). This was card #1 on Wednesday. I wanted to do a retro pink/turquoise & lime holiday card. I must give a shout out to Gaby Alcantara who first gave me the idea to use Sprinkles for Christmas (she is so amazing - love her work!).

This one's my Winter Wonderland card (it went up this morning). For it you just need 4 pieces of paper and a stamp! I love this jolly little snowman & I wanted to make a holiday card that was more of a "Season's Greetings" than a "Merry Christmas" card. Hmmm...now that I think of it all of the cards I did were non traditional - go figure. My favorite bit? making that fun little scarf out of the striped paper...so much fun! And our calico paper makes such great snow!

Candle Bright Creations
With Twilight movie mania hitting full force over here, I wanted to share some of my favorite Twilight merchandise on etsy...

First is the Bella spoon ring. I think all kinds of repurposed/recycled stuff is cool & I really liked this. Very "Bella".

Then *my fav* the hair forks. These spiky combs are perfect for thick curly hair {like mine} and I love them - the play on Forks, WA, the utility of them & they're kind of beautiful...

And if you were wondering what happened to the rest of the spoon - look no further. Cool stamped key rings all over the place! This one was especially cool.

Then of course there's our buttons from our shop, which I'm particularly partial to as well... {you didn't think I could actually resist throwing those in the post too???} :)

Ultimate Crafty Recycling...

OK. Today I wanted to share "guest project" from my cousin Meg. She found the etsy YouTube station & started devouring all the how to videos, until she was so inspired she started creating on the spot. Here's the video she found:

Did you know you could do this??? Um, this brings recycling to a whole new lever over here!!! She started fusing immediately {all I had at my house were Target bags - no shock there} and here's a close up of what she made:

Sweet! I fell asleep {it was so late} and when I woke up she had made these two little guys with her fused plastic "cloth"... {lol - and Jen - I about choked when I saw the mushroom, but oh well - I guess the acorn doesn't fall far from the cousin-ly tree}

So adorable!!! We've been into the website Odd Little Forest - and have been drawing lots of inspiration of new shapes to try making from there.

I'm off to create something today! I haven't decided what to make yet, but I have a few ideas...Hope you have a creative day too!!!

...a mess! This has been a crazy week! I've been on "vacation", BUT it hasn't exactly turned out the way I planned. If it had there would be a sewing machine here instead of a shoebox full of labels, a Christmas card I made, a LUSH ad, my camera, naked computer memory in a ziploc baggie & an almost empty roll of tape. Oh well...on upside I've been cooking a lot of new things this week!

PSA: Headphones & Pacemakers

So, I'm watching the news, minding my own business when this story comes on...which is odd since I just bought new headphones for my Mp3 Friday night & I'm a notorious headphone dangler...

"Have a pacemaker or an implanted defibrillator? Don't keep your earbuds in your shirt pocket or draped around your neck -- even when they're disconnected. A study finds that some headphones can interfere with heart devices if held very close to them."

I had no idea. And I try to really keep up with this kind of thing since my pacemaker is, like the only thing that's been keeping me alive for the last couple of years. Here are some other things that interfere you might not think of - drive thru car washes, lawn mowers {I know, the irony of it!}, cell phones {I can't ever use mine on my left ear} and compressors {which is how my husband keeps me out of the garage - lol}.

So here's what gets me...NO WARNING ON THE PACKAGING. None. I hate that. I'm really peeved. There was one line - for more product information go to our website...So I did & after I put the serial number in the warning was on the 2nd page. Great. That really helps me out after I've listened to them for 12 hours straight. I mean, c'mon, this is important information.

Apparently, I can wear them, but it's really dangerous to let one dangle out of my ear, like when I stop listening to talk to someone...and heaven knows I did that a lot. Well, NO MORE.

Thank you for reading, I had to rant to somebody. Please share this if you know anyone else with a pacer/defib combo & don't dangle. And if you do, don't hug me...

I SEE: Falling Gas Prices

OMG...yes that's GAS UNDER $2!!!!! *happy dance*

I HEAR: Ella

How cute is this kid? Ella, my friend's daughter, used to...um...how do I put this??? Run away from me screaming?{lol} It was like a game "you can't hug me. you can't catch me." etc. Well, I don't know when exactly we turned the corner, but now it's "Hi Emily, let me draw you a picture. I love you. Pretend to be my mommy and throw me a party." I went over to Ashley & Ben's for several hours this week while Ben was resurrecting the information from my dead laptop and had lots of quality time with Ella, Gracie & Nolen.

I TASTE: Cavalli's
Bliss. After several weeks of being a "good girl" I forgot my lunch twice this week and *had* to go to Cavalli's for lunch. Not only have they been voted best pizza in Dallas (Big D magazine), they were just named best pizza in America (World Traveler magazine). They are light, fresh perfection & some of the friendliest people around. And they ordered some of Matt's buttons to boot!!!

I TOUCH: Clutter & Paint Chips

One of my goals is to de-clutter. I've already made arrangements for the Kidney foundation to pick up on Thursday, so I'm totally motivated. I really want to tackle my "guest bedroom" which has been the "dump room" for everything we can't figure out where to put since we bought our house 5 years ago. I also touch paint chips in an attempt to make a decision about our bedroom....hmmmmmmm. We were originally thinking blue, no - I wanted blue & Matt didn't. He suggested another warm color...and you know those golden, Tuscan sunset/torchlight/afternoon sun tones are my favorites. Now we just have to pick ONE.

I SMELL: Peppermint Chocolate Chip Shake...
Here's the problem...it spilled everywhere! When I was picking up Chick Fil-A for my dad, I saw these on the menu for the holidays & had to try one. It looked & smelled fabulous! Unfortunately, when I picked it up the domed lid came off and it gushed all over my car, shoes, driveway, front steps, tile floor and kitchen counter. What was left was very tasty.

Currently my favorite paper in my stash - the Simply Luxe black & white polka dot! I know this is an extreme close up...but I love it so much I wanted to fill the screen with it!

So this is what I tried with it this week! (Yet another reason I *LOVE* this paper!) I swiped the paper with different colors of ink pads to totally change the look of it...so much fun! And it looks EVEN BETTER in person. Rock on!

I already had my black velvet backdrop on my desk for a photo shoot...and it looked SO much cleaner than my desk I just left it there {lol}.

In memory of Susan Dallas...

I found out today about Susan from Windy City up in Chicago. She passed away Sunday...If you ever shopped at that amazing store you would know her laugh and would remember her smile. Every time I saw her I gave her a big hug & I swear we talked at least a couple of times a month for the last year. I even just found this picture of her still on my camera from this summer. And I didn't even know she was sick...she was so upbeat, positive & full of life. She was one of those really neat people you wish you could spend more time getting to know.

Susan, you will be missed. My heart goes out to her family, the staff at Windy City and all the people that loved her. If you knew Susan, please leave a message on Windy City's post.

Tracy & the girls joined us for dinner last night & the sound of Amy & Haley giggling & conspiring with Meg was just hilarious. The girls are growing like little weeds - can you believe they're 13 & 10 already???

OK...weird name, I know. I came up with concoction a couple of years ago based on what was in the house. It was nameless for a long time...until one night when Amy invited her boyfriend (Zach) over to my house for dinner. She had made "the stuff". That was the night we found out Zach hated every ingredient in it. So from then on it was called "Zach-bane" and was the one dinner we could cook to guarantee Zach wouldn't join us for dinner (lol). Of course - the rest of us love it...

chopped yellow onion
chopped garlic
bacon
chicken thighs
frozen peas
fresh mushrooms
bowtie pasta
alfredo sauce

Cook bacon. Crumble & set aside. Drain pan (leave a small amt. of grease for next step). Brown onion, garlic & mushrooms. Add and cook chicken in same pan. Microwave peas. Meanwhile cook pasta and heat alfredo sauce. At the last minute combine pasta and alfredo and peas & bacon into chicken mixture. Dump both pans into a big pasta bowl & toss. Serve with parmesan cheese.

I had so much fun doing the Halloween countdown for Luxe!!! This tablescape was one of the most fun things I've created in a while!!!

I SMELL: Eco Soap

I'm still fighting (and losing) the battle of the dishes. It's astounding to me how fast they're adding up...extra bodies, cooking more meals a day, breaking dishes & losing spoons...ooof. I like my new eco friendly soap though. :)

OK...these are embarrassingly easy, but here goes:

ALIEN COOKIES

1. Add green frosting to a sugar cookie.

2. Spread frosting.

3. Add googly eyes.

Be sure NOT to serve these to anyone young enough to EAT the googly eyes! But they're really cure to plate up for a party or to have your kids make their own. Put a bowl {or a shot glass} on your table as an "eyeball bucket" for your guests to toss their discarded googlies.

BRAIN CUPCAKES
1. Make or buy cupcakes.

2. Frost with little squiggles to make it look like a brain.

I got the idea from FamilyFun.com - which has much better pictures than I do. :)

...cookie decorating stuff!!! I'm putting the finishing touches on my Luxe Halloween table setting and these are the makings of my alien cookies...see the googly eyes in the shot glass? I did it! I went ahead and voted today...I make it a rule to never mix politics and blogging, but I am a big believer in voting & really advocate that everyone gets to the polls anduses their voice...

I am a big Shepard Fairey fan & I decided to share one of his pro-voting posters from this year today in honor of the upcoming election. Early voting is such a relief...I'm s0 glad I did it ahead of time!

I did this project today for the Luxe Halloween countdown...

When I go up to Target later today I am soooooooo loading up on these dollar spot beauties! They smell pretty goo too - they have them in pumpkin, pear & vanilla. I want to get some more of the pumpkin ones for Thanksgiving & some pear & vanilla to do up for Christmas...

Also I have to get supplies for the final idea in our Halloween Countdown - a Luxe Halloween party tablescape, complete with "brain cupcakes" (if they turn out!)...so stay tuned & live Luxe!

That is my brain. All exposed and broken (and color corrected, I might add). It's the guts of my external hard drive - and everything I've done for the last two years.

Cross your fingers and say a prayer for a full recovery. That WAS the back up...I am so stressed...thank God for good friends. Ben is on the case & hopefully we can get the data out of there sometime later this week!

I TASTE: Mock/Crock Chicken Pot Pie
I came up with a great new recipe this week that was a huge hit with my family so here it is:

Chop the following: chicken thighs, yellow onion, fresh garlic, carrots, celery & potatoes.

Add to crock pot with 1 can cream of chicken & herb soup, 1/2 a jar of chicken gravy & water. Add black pepper, tarragon & sage. Cook on low all day.

Create a roux with butter & flour and add milk. Stir into crock pot to thicken.

Make jumbo flaky layer biscuits. Split them in half and place on top of bowls of the chicken mixture. It's a great (and easy) alternative to pot pies!

I TOUCH: Clutter
I started a real thorough de-clutter yesterday. I got through 2 rooms, which is not as far as I wanted to get, but really makes me feel like I accomplished something.

I SMELL: Breakfast
We are not really breakfast people. But with my dad staying here, I've been making him breakfast every morning. Raisin bread toast smell like "morning" now - it's different.

My mom's sewing box. It's one of those random things I gathered from her house after she passed away. It's been "missing" in my house for over a year now. I guess Matt tried to do a button repair when I was out of town & it ended up in his stuff...doesn't matter. The point is I found it this week and it was such a pleasant surprise. I've kept it out. I love all the old needle cards...when was the last time needles were 40 cents anyway??? The needle book with the vintage illustration of the little sewing girls is my favorite. It's sitting on some oilcloth that I absolutely HAD to have {about six months ago & that I still haven't done anything with}. I even dreamed about it the other night - so I'm keeping it out, just in case I actually have time to do something fun!

...ready to alter Halloween projects! I've been working on the 13 ideas in 13 days Halloween countdown for the Luxe blog & I realized I needed a few extra projects to finish it out. I've been dying to do something creative lately, so I went to Target & loaded up on things to alter for the countdown! I couldn't help grabbing my bottle of Vampire wine for the photo...Let's see - I spy: chocolate & candy corn, a green tape runner, some Martha Stewart labels, a couple of candles from the dollar spot and - can you see the little white blobs in the basket??? Those are my favorite - itty bitty bottles of bubbles to pass out with our candy {not for my project at all, I just had to have them!} - and they all look like bloodshot eyeballs!!! I got a bag of 30 for $3.99...what a deal! here's a close up with a nickel to give you the perspective...

Has it really been five years???

Mom...I think about her all the time. I still feel like I haven't taken the time to grieve yet. I miss her so much and I am stunned that today is the fifth anniversary of her death.

*sigh*

This year I can post with a bittersweet smile instead of the usual veil of tears...{maybe I am better adjusted this year}. So, instead of the usual photos ...I decided to post a couple that made me smile.

That face is "I can't believe you're taking my picture when I'm TRYING to fix my b-r-a strap!!!" There was mom, chatting away with some of her friends at church. That was "her spot". There were chairs there in the 70's...later they put in a pew. She always sat in the same spot to visit after church as long as I can remember.

I can still feel her hugs...I look at this and it's like a smile or a warm blanket.

Here are a few thank yous for my mom:

thank you for choosing to raise me
thank you for believing in me
thank you for teaching me every craft & hobby under the sun
thank you for making creativity a priority in our home
thank you for late night crafting sessions when I was WAY too young to be staying up that late!
thank you for all the wonderful memories.

I still miss:

your smile
our talks, especially your stories
the way you would run your fingers through my hair...
you.

Ok, that's it...any more and I will start crying. And today, well today is a day for remembering the good times.

I really love the Cinnamon bread from the SuperTarget bakery.
I'm having a hard time sleeping.
If it weren't for a quick shower with my favorite lemon/grapefruit peel soap I would've been back asleep by now...
I try to do too much.
Gee, I hope it rains today...
I wish I was more comfortable using my new laptop. It does weird things.
I love putting kits together. {yes, announcement coming later this morning}
So glad honeycrisp apples are back in season!
I'm back on hormone therapy...and I hate it.
I wish I had a magic wand that could "make it all better". I would be waving it all over the place...

I SEE: Ugly Betty & other shows in my DVR

I did some late night catching up on my shows this week. {I wasn't sleeping real well} I LOVE Ugly Betty - it's a smart, funny, melodramatic show with great actors. Speaking of shows (the Office)...I'm so into watching Michael & Holly I don't even miss Pam. Is that wrong?

I HEAR: Pandora
I go through phases...and I'm totally back into listening to Pandora at work. I love it since you can type in a song or musician & they pull artists with similar sounds. I've found a lot of great music through Pandora! Here are the "stations" I listened to the most this week: Cyndi Lauper, Sarah McLachlan, Ben Folds, St. Louis Blues, Regina Spektor, The Moldy Peaches & The Apples in Stereo.

I TASTE: Pork Tenderloin
I made one of the best pork tenderloins I ever have this week & it was totally a fluke! I rubbed it down with roasted garlic & patted in salt, pepper & rosemary. Then I just baked it on 350 for about an hour. It turned out so moist & yummy my family thought I was a rock star...

I TOUCH: DIRTY DISHES!!!
It's a vicious cycle. I'm cooking so much more these days....but I feel like it's double the cooking, four times the dishes.

I SMELL: Flowers

My family is all home from the hospital now & my dad ended up staying with us for a bit while he's on the mend. So his flowers {from his fab veterinarian} are on our dining room table. So cheery.
